Lemon Cherry Gelato (32.397%) THCa Flower

Lemon Cherry Gelato (32.397% THCa) – Premium THCa Flower

Lemon Cherry Gelato is an indica-leaning THCa flower strain popularized by Backpack Boyz and named High Times Strain of the Year in 2022. This living soil batch tests at 32.397% THCa with 34.604% total cannabinoids and a 2.35% terpene profile led by limonene, backed by an unusual secondary note of α-cedrene. It is the most potent top shelf flower in this release.

Overview

Lemon Cherry Gelato — LCG to most people who buy it — is one of the most in-demand cultivars of the last five years, and this batch earns the name. At 32.397% THCa and 34.604% total cannabinoids, it is the highest-potency top shelf offering in this drop. The minor cannabinoid fraction is substantial too: 1.508% CBGa, 0.234% CBCa, 0.163% THCVa, plus 0.036% Δ8-THC and 0.162% Δ9-THC.

The terpene profile totals 2.35% and is genuinely distinctive. Limonene leads at 0.73% — 31% of the entire profile — but the second-place terpene is α-cedrene at 0.38%, a woody, cedar-and-pencil-shavings terpene that rarely shows up this high in commercial flower. Behind those sit linalool (0.17%), cis-β-ocimene (0.17%), ocimene (0.17%), β-myrcene (0.16%), α-humulene (0.14%), menthol (0.12%), and endo-fenchyl alcohol (0.10%).

What that combination produces is the citrus-and-cream nose LCG is known for, wrapped in a dry woody backbone that keeps it from reading as purely candy-sweet. It is a more complex expression of the strain than the sugar-forward versions circulating under this name.

Aroma and Flavor

Lemon Cherry Gelato opens with sharp lemon-lime citrus over sweet dark cherry — the two notes the strain is named for. Underneath that, the α-cedrene brings a dry cedar-and-sandalwood base that most LCG does not have, and the twin ocimenes add a green, herbal-sweet lift on top.

On the palate it reads as citrus zest and cherry candy first, then a creamy gelato sweetness through the middle, finishing dry and woody with a faint cooling note from the trace menthol. It is sweet without being cloying, and the woody finish gives it real depth.

Effects and Usage

Lemon Cherry Gelato is indica-leaning, and the effect profile follows: a bright, euphoric, distinctly mood-elevating onset driven by the limonene dominance, settling into full-body calm without heavy sedation. Users most often describe it as relaxed-but-still-functional — a strain for winding down rather than shutting down.

Well suited to late afternoon and evening use, creative downtime, and unwinding after work. Pacing tip: at 32.397% THCa this is the strongest top shelf flower in this drop. If you normally smoke flower in the mid-20s, start with less than you think you need.

Strain Background

Lemon Cherry Gelato was popularized by Backpack Boyz, the Bay Area collective, around 2016 and went on to become one of the most commercially significant cultivars in the US market — High Times Strain of the Year in 2022, Leafly's Strain of 4/20 in 2023, the #4 strain nationally that year and #1 in New York. It is also available in seed form through a Barney's Farm × Backpack Boyz collaboration.

A note on lineage: LCG's genetics are genuinely disputed, and we would rather say so than pick a version. The most-repeated account is Sunset Sherbet × Girl Scout Cookies, which is what both SeedFinder and Barney's Farm publish. Backpack Boyz's own page lists Lemon Tree × Cherry Pie × Gelato in one place and Sunset Sherbet × GSC in another. Leafly's reporting says it was actually selected from a Gelato #33 bagseed, which would explain why no clean cross can be stated. All three accounts put it firmly in the Cookies/Gelato family, and the terpene data here is consistent with that.

This batch was grown in living soil — a no-till organic method that builds a self-sustaining soil microbiome rather than relying on synthetic nutrients. It generally produces the fullest terpene and minor-cannabinoid expression a strain is capable of, which is reflected in the 1.508% CBGa reading on this COA.

Not to be confused with Lemon Cherry Zkittlez, White Lemon Cherry Gelato, or Lemon Cherry Runtz — all separate cultivars.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Lemon Cherry Gelato Indica or Sativa?
Lemon Cherry Gelato is an indica-leaning hybrid, commonly described as roughly 60/40 indica-dominant. We sell it as an Indica.

What does Lemon Cherry Gelato taste like?
Lemon-lime citrus and dark cherry up front, a creamy gelato sweetness through the middle, and a dry cedar-woody finish with a faint cooling note. This batch is less candy-sweet and more complex than typical LCG because of its unusually high α-cedrene content.

What is the dominant terpene in Lemon Cherry Gelato?
In this batch, limonene at 0.73% is dominant — about 31% of the total terpene profile. α-Cedrene (0.38%) is a notably high second, followed by linalool, ocimene, and β-myrcene.

What are the genetics of Lemon Cherry Gelato?
Disputed. The most common claim is Sunset Sherbet × Girl Scout Cookies; Backpack Boyz has also published Lemon Tree × Cherry Pie × Gelato; and Leafly reports it was selected from a Gelato #33 bagseed. All accounts place it in the Cookies and Gelato family.

How potent is Lemon Cherry Gelato?
This batch tests at 32.397% THCa with 34.604% total cannabinoids — the highest potency top shelf flower in this release.

Is Lemon Cherry Gelato good for evening use?
Yes. Its limonene-led profile keeps the onset bright and mood-elevating, then it settles into full-body relaxation, which makes it well suited to late afternoon and evening.

What is living soil flower?
Living soil is a no-till organic growing method that builds a self-sustaining soil microbiome instead of relying on synthetic nutrients. It generally produces the most complete terpene and cannabinoid expression a strain can reach.

Storage Instructions

Store Lemon Cherry Gelato in an airtight container in a cool, dark, dry place. Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat to preserve the limonene content — citrus terpenes degrade first. Seal tightly between uses.
